Abstract (EN)

One of the important gains of social studies lessons is to raise effective citizens. It is necessary to be a democratic person who knows his/her rights and responsibilities, and for this, it is necessary to have the necessary skills and values. In this context, social studies lessons have an important place. Scenario-based learning method in social studies has an important place in the learning process of these fundamental values. Purpose of the Study: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of scenario-based learning method on academic achievement, attitude and retention in 6th grade social studies lessons. The research was conducted using the quasi-experimental method and the study group was determined by the convenience sampling technique. The study group consisted of 60 students (experimental group: 30, control group: 30) who were studying in the 6th grade of Kocatepe Secondary School in Afyonkarahisar in the 2022¬2023 academic year. In order to collect the research data, the achievement test developed by the researcher, the social studies attitude scale and the retention achievement test were used. In the analysis of the data, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Whitney U Test, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test were used. The data obtained from the data collection tools were examined at the 95% confidence interval (p = 0.05). The findings obtained from the data collection tools indicate that scenario-based learning has a noticeable effect on the achievement and retention of the gains of the "Active Citizenship" unit. In addition, it has been significantly effective on the attitude towards social studies lessons.
