Abstract (EN)
The brick made from earthenware has maintained its importance as a building material from the first ages to the present in civil engineering applications. Nowadays, due to excessive consumption of clay soils, which are used in brick production, parallel to the increase in demand for housing, the fertile agricultural lands where clayey soils were taken has made unusable. In this study, brick production has been targeted with mixing the waste glass fragments in certain proportions into waste clay soils, without damaging the agricultural lands, excavated in the foundations of the construction in Adıyaman which is not used for agricultural applications. The relationship between baking temperature and the physical properties of the bricks at different rates and temperatures were investigated. Depending on the baking temperature, strength, water absorption and baking loss in bricks has been observed to be increased. In contrast, these values have been reduced by increasing the proportion of glass fragments. It is observed that the bricks, which are baked at temperatures of 900 ºC and beyond, are close to the physical properties of the bricks of TSE EN 771. In the bricks produced without glass additive, it is determined that the bricks baked at temperatures of 1000 ºC and later are close to the physical properties of the bricks of TSE EN 771. In bricks produced with glass adding fragments at baking temperatures of 1000 ºC and over, are also close to the physical properties of bricks at TSE EN 771. In addition, according to SEM and EDX analysis, baked bricks at temperatures above 900 ºC, some minerals on clay soil have begun to melt. It has been also observed that some minerals could be vaporized. Accordingly, the ratio of the gap in the bricks has been seen to be increased. It is also observed that the glass additive has a positive effect on the physical properties of the brick.
