EVALUATION OF BARAK KERPİÇ RESIDENCE ARCHITECTURE IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABILITY AKTAŞ, Vijdan M.Sc. in Architecture Supervisor(s): Prof. Dr. Bilge IŞIK Şubat 2020 In line with today's conditions, high technology brings environmental pollution that cannot be cured by nature. Today's practitioners and planners, who prioritize environmental protection and sustainability, turn to ecological materials that do not require energy during their production or that require relatively lower energy and that provide comfort conditions with minimum energy during their use. In this context, adobe, which is a conventional material, manifests itself as an environmentally sensitive building material with very low energy requirements starting from the production stage to the usage and consumption phase. It is a comfortable sustainable building material with its structure that does not need a facility in its production and also provides insulation and balances moisture. Among the important advantages of adobe material; It is economical and healthy, it can be produced easily by using local tools and simple tools, no energy is used for its construction and there is no emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere. Adobe architecture was used in Barak culture around Gaziantep. In the study, sustainable criteria of mudbrick architecture were examined and today, mudbrick building contribution was made.The goal of this study is to determine some characteristics of adobe structures found in Barak cultural structure. The results show that adobe, which is a traditional building material, can also be used as a contemporary building material in Barak architecture.
