Properties of rocks used as aggregates in and around Batman

Determination of the properties of aggregate named rocks which exist in Batman and city borders is aimed with this master thesis. Within this context 1/100000 scaled geological map of the Batman city was prepared and general geology is gathered. Samples are taken from stoves and crushers inside the study area were refined to the geology map and physical, chemical and mineralogical petrographical analysis were carried out. Results were compared with some technical specifications, rated according to their purpose of use. As a result of the study, samples taken from the Gemlik Formation limestones showed low fragmentation strength, some samples taken from Midyat Group limestones had more than %4 dirtiness ratio and decided that they were not suitable for the are of usage. Fragility ratio was under %95 for some samples from today’s steam gravels, they were not approved for the specifications according to the usage areas, the other steam gravels aggregate samples were approved according to the usage areas. Finally it was determined that the best units fort he production of aggregates around the city and in the city of Batman were some of the limestones belonging to Midyat Group and some of the steam gravels.
