Abstract (EN)

This study, aimed to determine some water quality parameters and the pollution level of the Çanakçı Creek which disembogue into Black Sea from Görele County of Giresun City, was started in March 2013. The water quality parameters of; dissolved oxygen, oxygen saturation rate, pH, temperature, salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), conductivity, chlorophyll-a, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total alkalinity, total hardness, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), ammonium (NH4), ammoniac (NH3), total phosphate, soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), total suspended solids (TSS) were measured. The means obtained data were as follow; dissolved oxygen; 7,11 mgL-1, oxygen saturation rate; 67,68 %, pH; 7,92, temperature; 13 °C, salinity; 0,07 ppt, TDS; 0,091 gL-1, conductivity; 147 µScm-1, ORP; -94,18 mV, BOD; 3,83 mgL-1, total alkalinity; 43 mgL-1, total hardness; 68 mgL-1, chlorophyll-a; 1,92 ugL-1, TAN; 0,67 mgL-1, ammonium; 0,65 mgL-1, ammoniac; 0,026 mgL-1, total phosphorus; 0,46 mgL-1, SRP; 0,02 mgL-1, TSS; 20,3 mgL-1. Obtained data showed that the water quality of Çanakçı Creek may suitable for agricultural activities and may be a suitable living habitat for the living beings. However, total phosphorus rate 0,46 mgL-1 and oxygen saturation rate 67,68 % are situated in the contaminated water class. Ammonium rate 0,65 mgL-1 and dissolved oxygen rate 7,11 mgL-1 are fitted in the slightly contaminated water class. Çanakçı Creek may be classified as clean water and has no threat regarding to rest of the detected parameters.
