Abstract (EN)

Despite the advantages of wood as a building material compared to other construction materials, one of the main reasons for its limited use in multi-story buildings is the widespread belief that it has low fire resistance. The development of wood as a composite material due to its positive impact on sustainability and the environment, along with research on its fire resistance, has made industrial wood material a preferred choice in the structural systems of multi-story buildings. In fire tests conducted in multi-story wooden buildings, it has been observed that wood exhibits satisfactory fire resistance performance both at the material and structural levels, leading to a shift towards favoring performance-based solutions over prescriptive ones in national regulations. In this comprehensive study, 14 multi-story wooden buildings identified through extensive literature research were evaluated in the context of fire precautions, focusing on structure, building components, and building materials, and analyzed with the aid of tables. As a result of the study, it was observed that when wood is used in multi-story buildings, specific precautions are required, and these precautions increase as the building height rises. The thesis aims to enhance awareness on this subject by demonstrating that multi-story buildings constructed with industrial wood materials exhibit superior fire performance, thereby contributing to the use of wood materials in multi-story constructions.
