Abstract (EN)
Aim: Microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract help the digestion of food in the human body, as well as contribute to metabolism. These microorganisms are approximately 10 times more than human cells and work almost like an organ of the body. In addition, there is a certain balance of the microbiota of the gastrointestinal ecosystem and this balance can be deteriorated for various reasons. This deterioration can lead to various diseases such as diabetes, obesity, Parkinson's, hypertension, and gastrointestinal diseases. Material and method: The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the differentiation of the intestinal microbiota of diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic individuals. The samples of the study were 100 individuals diagnosed with diabetes and 137 individuals without diabetes. Bacteriological culture identification procedures were performed with stool samples taken from individuals with and without diabetes, and bacterial colonies that grew were identified by conventional methods. In addition, the stool occult blood test, and the glucose and HbA1C values in serum samples taken simultaneously from the patients were evaluated by statistical analysis for the purpose of examination. Results: As a result of the evaluations, it was determined that the density of gram-negative and non-butyrate-producing bacteria such as E. coli was higher in diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic patients (p= 0.01). While bacterial diversity was less in diabetic patients, their occult blood positivity was much higher (p= 0.01). Also, they were more sensitive to gastrointestinal disturbances (61%). Conclusion: These results suggested that microbiota can be used to determine metabolic disease risk and etiopathogenesis.
