Religious orientation, suicide and attitudes toward suicide.

The goals of this study are to investigate the suicidal behaivors, and the relationship between religious orientations, suicide and attitudes toward suicidal person in university students. In the line of these goals, a total of 697 university students from Aydın city whose are studying in different faculties, are participated in this study. Paticipants were administred Suicidal Behavior Questions and Eskin's Suicide and Attitudes Toward Suicidal Person Scale, Muslim Religious Orientation Scale and general information form which includes demographic features. As a result of the analysis we investigate suicide and attitudes toward suicidal person relationship between religious orientations. We found a negative correlation between intrinsic religious orientation and suicide acceptability. Quest religious orientation was a positive correlation between suicide acceptability. Also we found a positive correlation between religious orientation and social acceptance. We found a positive correlation between extrinsic religious orientation and disapproval of suicidal disclosure. In terms of sex differences , at least once suicide attempts were more frequent in men than women. However there were no sex differences in religion orientation subscales.Key words: Religious orientation , Attitudes toward suicide , Suicide behaviour
