Investigation of some antioxidant and development characteristics of Eastern Black Sea Treptacantha barbata populations regarding ecological status class

This project, regarding to Ecology Evaluation Index (EEI), presents antioxidant properties of Treptacantha Barbara (TB) and the relation between environmental and seasonal factors on the properties of TB. For this purpose, some in vitro antioxidant properties (FRAP and DPPH scavenging activities), TP (total phenolic content), TF (total flavonoid content) and some phenolic contents (HPLC) of TB samples aged 1 to 2 years were investigated. Also, physicochemical parameters of sea water from the identified stations (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity and salinity) were analised in situ. The antioxidant properties of TB, according to seasonal and stations factors, show a statistical difference in TP, FRAP and DPPH activity (ANOVA, p<0.05). It has been observed there is a negative relation between temperature and TP and FRAP, but a positive relation with temperature and DPPH activity. In the beginning of reproduction period of TB (late spring-early summer), it has been determined the variation of antioxidant properties were quite high. This situation is associated with the geographical location of St2 station. Chrysin flavonoid showed the highest concentration in autumn season among all the phenolic components in the project. Moreover, it is thought that the main reason of high level of FRAP contribution in the second component of the TBA (Principal Component Analysis) score graphics is due to fertilised reproductive organs of TB.
