Examination of the status of parents regarding their children's fever management

Although fever is a natural defense mechanism of the body, it causes anxiety and fear in families. The purpose of this research the aim of this study is to examine the status of children of parents living in a city center regarding fever management. The study is cross sectional and descriptive. The sample of the study was calculated as 156 with 95% confidence level and 80% power, and 167 parents were reached. The data of the study were collected with a questionnaire prepared using the literature and the Parental Fever Management Scale. The data were collected online by snowball sampling method. In the study, 55.1% of the parents are mothers, 44.9% are university graduates and 33.5% are civil servants. The mean score of the Parental Fever Management Scale of the parents was 32.94±4.9. There is a statistically significant difference between Parental Fever Management Scale mean score and the parent's educational status, occupation, monthly income, child's fever history, previous hospitalization due to fever, previous seizure due to fever and previous hospitalization due to the parent's previous training in approaching a febrile child (p<0.05). In the study, it was determined that parents acted fearful and anxious in fever management. In line with these results, it is recommended to repeat similar studies in larger sample groups and to carry out studies where training programs are planned for parents who develop knowledge, attitude, behavior and awareness about fever management.
