Removal of zinc ions from waters using emulsion liquid membrane technique

Abstract (EN)

In this study, zinc removal from water was studied by using Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) technique which is used on different extraction disciplines. For this purpose, the parameters of ELM system (internal aquatic phase component, volume, concentration; membrane phase components, volume, concentrations; emulsification rate and time; external aquatic phase component concentration; mixing speed and time) were examined. In the ELM systems, external aquatic phase ion zinc, internal aquatic phase scraper component sulfuric acid, membrane phase solvent component toluene, paraffin, mineral oil mixture, surfactant component SPAN80 (sorbitan monooleate) and carrier component D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphate) were used. The effects of the mentioned parameters on the zinc removal from water were investigated. physical, chemical and economic factors were taken into consideration and optimum values were determined. 1 mg/L external aquatic phase Zinc (Zn2+) concentration as a result of experimental studies aimed at; 22 mL membrane phase volume of 0.48 mL SPAN80, 0.2 mL D2EHPA, 4 mL Toluene, 17 mL Paraffin; 18 mL internal aquatic phase volume formed from 1N sulfuric acid; 10000 rpm emulsification rate and 1 min emulsification time and 300 rpm reactor mixing time were determined as optimum values.
