Fisheries of Gi̇resun and socio-economic structure of fishermen

In this study, with the aim of determinig the fishing and socio-economic state in Giresun; 630 boats, used in the centre of province and in towns on the shore, were put into an order according to their lengths and by taking their densities into consideration; they were classified into groups as the boats of smaller than 8 m, 8-11.9 m, 12-29.9 and the ones bigger than 30 m. and also according to the fisheries are divided into two groups; coastal fishing and purse seine fisheries are divided into groups. A survey of 167 boats has been conducted by emplaying by the layered exemplification technique. Fishing vessels surveyed were investigated specifications, auxiliary boat features, network hardware properties, hunting supplies, boat owner and socio-economic characteristics of the crew, current problems and solutions. Coastal fishing with purse seine fishery when we compared the economically of those who make coastal fishing nevertheless that the economic problems of the purse seine fishery was concluded that the absence of economic distress. At the conclusion of the survey evaluation, The giresun fishing is consist of purse seine fishery of 4% and coastal fishing vessel of 96% also it has been observed that except of the fisherman of coastal fishing that additional revenue from the sale of nuts and pensions don't show any socio-economical differences in respect of the size of their boats and such problems as not having the social security, non existance of the ministry of moritime, high cost of fishing equipments, insufficiency of the inspections, underdevoloped marketing system and excessive fishing have been found out. Fishermen reported that they saw as the most important problem to the construction of marine and coastal pollution.Giresun Province fishermen believe that the main factor in reducing the amount of pollution and hunting sea trawling. The average 16.92 years with fishing vessels in the smaller group size of 8 m older, larger boats, fishing vessels of 30 meters are the youngest. In order to solve the problems of fishermen Maritime Affairs should urgently be established, and controls should be increased, it avoided by increasing overfishing.
