Determining the factors affecting the perceptions of nursing students' pediatric nursing competence

This research is a descriptive and cross-sectional study aiming to determine the factors affecting the child nursing efficacy perceptions of nursing students. The sample of the research is Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department 4th grade students. The primary data of the study were collected through face-to-face survey. Success Orientations scale, Pediatric Nursing Proficiency scale for Nursing Students, Communication Skills scale and Interpersonal Problem-Solving Inventory scales were used in the study. In the study, the factors affecting the perceptions of child nursing efficacy were examined by structural equation model analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that problem solving self-confidence, γ= 0.19, communication skills perceptions, γ= 0.61, academic achievement perceptions, with γ= 0.32, explained the child nursing efficacy perceptions. In addition, it was found that there were significant positive relationships between students' perceptions of academic success and communication skills (r: 0.79 p < 0.001), between problem solving and communication skills (r: 0.14 p < 0.001), and between problem solving and academic achievement variables (r: 0.21 p < 0.001). At the end of the study, it was emphasized that an integrated learning management system should not be used, since learning techniques may differ for each student, and some suggestions were given to improve the communication skills of nursing students, increase their academic success and problem-solving competencies.
