An investigation of Ibn Batuta's Itinerary in terms of its congruence with the objectives of social studies curriculum

Abstract (EN)
As a Turkish citizen to educate individuals who aware of their responsibilities and rights, patriotic and nationalist is one of the aims of the social studies course. For these purposes, verbal and written sources can be used in the training of social studies teachers and the teaching of social studies courses. As a literary product travel books are one of the most important sources that contain cultural, sociological, political, and economic information. Handling the style of the book and explaining the information to be conveyed to the reader in a literary style arouses curiosity and interest. The aim of this study is to examine Ibn Battuta's travel book in the context of the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades acquisitions of the module of social science in the curriculum. Two volumes of the travel book were examined by the researcher to determine which acquisition was given and how in Ibn Battuta's travel book. Document analysis was used by the researcher as a data collection tool in the study, and the findings obtained in the travel book were examined in detail with content analysis. The acquisitions in Ibn Battuta travel book were determined and the category-code and contents created by the researcher were presented in figures by associating them and supported by direct quotations together with page and volume numbers. The research concluded that the contents obtained from Ibn Batuta Seyahatname can be used in Social Studies education. In the research, categories and 15 codes related to 5th grade 11 acquisition were created. 6 categories and 16 codes were created for the categories related to the 6th grade 14 acquisition. Categories related to 7th grade 10 acquisition, 5 categories and 11 codes were created. More in our research; Culture and Heritage, Places Places and Environments, Production, Distribution and Consumption are associated with learning field outcomes. Associating with the Best Achievement Individual and Society, Connections Science, Technology and Society have been made with the acquisitions involved in learning. The unrelated gains in the research include completing Active Citizenship education.
