Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the concepts of sustainability and biomimicry are examined within the framework of nature-friendly design. The relationship between biomimicry and sustainability is evaluated from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and their contributions to environmental design are explained with examples. It is emphasized that biomimicry, through the knowledge and strategies derived from nature's evolutionary processes, enables the development of innovative and highly efficient designs that reduce environmental impacts. In this respect, biomimicry is highlighted as a design approach with significant potential in achieving sustainability goals. As part of the study, a survey was conducted with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year students from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Afyon Kocatepe University. Following the survey, the students were given a detailed presentation covering various aspects of biomimicry. Within the scope of the presentation, different examples of biomimicry were thoroughly discussed, and students were comprehensively informed on the subject. After the informative presentation on the biomimicry approach, a workshop was held with the students. In the workshop, how students integrated biomimicry into their design processes and for what purposes they used this method within their design strategies were examined in detail. The aim of this study is to teach the fundamental requirements of the biomimicry design approach and to raise awareness by enhancing the knowledge level of design students about biomimicry. The thesis concludes by emphasizing the importance of the biomimicry approach in design education and offering suggestions for increasing awareness in different fields related to the subject.
