Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the students? achievements in using punctuation marks that they have learnt within the framework of Turkish language teaching program of 5th graders in primary education and their attitudes towards reading. The findings of the research revealed that the level of correct use of punctuation marks in written works of 5th grade students is low; whereas, their attitudes towards reading is high. It is also found that there is a statistically significant difference in reading attitudes in terms of gender which was in favour of female students. Additionally, it is found that there is a significant relationship between the attitude towards reading and the level of use of commas, exclamation, bracket, and ditto marks. It was also found that there is a meaningful relationship between the correct use level of full stop, comma, exclamation mark, quotation mark, apostrophe, long line and ditto marks in terms of the gender of the participants.
