An examination of the approaches towards the determination and development of sports and recreation needs of students on KTU Kanuni Campus (Trabzon)

This study has been carried out in order to explore the approaches towards the determination and development of students? needs for recreation and sports on Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni Campus (K.T.U) and to put forward the existing situation on campus in this regard.It has been evaluated what kind of sports and recreation activities are students actively studying on campus open for in terms of leisure time efficiency as well as setting out the natural and cultural resource values of the campus where the study has been carried out. In the study which points out the diversity of the natural areas designated for sports and recreation as well as closed and open facilities and structures; the level of interest towards cooperation to sports and recreation by students has been investigated and information has also been provided what the management and responsibilities of the managerial and educational buildings should be on campus in this scope.An initial guidance has been provided about possible structuring efforts which would guide future planning in regards to students? needs and expectations on Kanuni Campus by comparing campus examples from around Turkey and the world in terms of facilities and managerial organization at areas designated for sports and recreation .With the ?Social Science Survey Method? used in the study, values, attitudes and behavioral potential of students who can actively use the campus facilities were examined by taking into account students? leisure time.Key Words: Leisure Time, Recreation, Sports, Campus Recreation, Kanuni Campus
