Abstract (EN)

In this study it was aimed to analyze positive or negative experiences of female managers working at schools and their ideas about this process. In the study a case study, one of the qualitative research models, was used. The participant group of research consists of 15 female school managers working in public schools in Antalya. The data was collected through individual face to face interviews. Participants were asked 10 semi-structured interview questions. In the analysis of the data, computer assisted qualitative data analysis process was carried out. From the data obtained during the research, it was seen that female school managers faced gender discrimination, barriers created by social status, barriers created by their fellow colleagues, and family barriers in the process of being a manager. In addition, it has been observed that there are managers who have experienced this process with family support and without being exposed to a negative social perspective. From the data obtained during the research, for female managers being a manager means of being a leader, being an exemplary role model, acting decisively and cautiously, supporting employees and being solution-oriented towards problems. In the terms of women's social status, the fact that the workload brought by marriage is not shared by men and women emerges to negatively affect women managers in the career-making process. There are female managers who cannot get the support of their fellows and face negative attitudes of them, it reveals that women are exposed to a gender-based barrier and it negatively affects their management processes. It is concluded that environmental pressure that women face that they cannot be managers creates an obstacle in the management processes of women and negatively affects the career lives of women managers.
