IV ABSTRACT SOCIO- ECONOMIC STRUCTURE IN KARAHÎSÂR-I SÂHİB (1684-1686) Gürsoy ŞAHİN General Turkish History Department Afyon Kocatepe University Social Sciences Institue, April 2001 Advisor: Ass. Prof. Mustafa TURAN The beginning of regression in Ottoman Empire is considered at the end of XVII. century. There are a lot of social, economic, military and politic reasons for the regression of the state. In the examined era, Karahisar-i Sahib city was a sancak center in Anatolian Eyaleti. Since it is located at a place where the roads meet it has attracted people and been a vital trade center. At the end of the XVII. century, long wars between Ottoman State and Austria- Hungaria have affected the social life in Karahisâr-ı Sâhib. Due to the preparetions for the war, some taxes were imposed and some unrests appeared in the socio-economic life. In these dates, the history of Karahisâr-ı Sâhib city might lighten the general situation of Ottoman State. Key Words: the end of XVII. Century, Karahisâr-ı Sâhib, Socio-economic structure.
