Abstract (EN)

A Soil and Plant geochemical survey was conducted around Kayabaşı (Kanköy) to obtain anomalous values both in plants and soils over the mineralized areas. Main purpose of this study is to investigate the distribution of indicator elements in soils and type(s) of indicator plant species around the Kayabaşı (Kanköy) massive sulphide occurrence. The oldest rock units exposed in the study area are spilitic basalt lavas and its pyroclastics. These rocks are unconformably overlain by the ore-bearing dacitic lavas. Reddish bio-micrits and purple-dacites lie conformably on these dacites. Basalts, lying on the purple-dacites, cut all these rock units as dayks. Upper Cretaceous units are by far the most widely observed in the studied area. Using soil geochemistry methods, Cu, Pb, Zn anomalies were obtained at Kayabaşı (Kanköy) mineralization. This method is, therefore, proved to be successful in the eastern Karadeniz area. Determined Cu, Pb, Zn anomalies from plant geochemistry are overlapped with anomalies from soil geochemistry in the same ore site. This study shows that Rhododendron Ponticum (violet flowered forest rose), Corylus Avellana (hazelnut) and Rhododendron Luteum (yellow flowered forest rose) species can be used as indicator plant species for biogeochemical studies in the eastern Karadeniz area.
