Sustainability of urban identity on urban renewal: Trabzon Zagnos Valley an example to urban renewal project

Although at first glance as it may seem, the urban concept is a prototype of city, in fact it becomes a field of questioning identity. During global world is rapidly transforming into world without identity in our era, urban identity is one of the most affected concepts. Even those who do not see city, they have an association of urban identity which defined as the evocative set of values about the city but nowadays this concept exists just in forms in some cities. And we figure that mostly these cities are modern European cities which solve urban problems. Cities which preserve their own urban identity to the present are being also mostly applied urban renewal projects. Taking over and trying to solve the problems of urban new urban transformation projects in other world cities, living conditions brought about by globalization and its historical regions are increasingly began to concentrate destroyed or abandoned. As for urban renewal projects in which the other cities recently take over and try to solve their urban problems begin to center on abandoned and extincted historical zones due to globalization and life conditions brought by. Demolition of urban historical zones destruct bond between citizen and city with history. As if city and urban identity can?t be examined without historical references, it is almost impossible to talk about urban identity of a city does not have a bond with its own history. Urban renewal projects applied in historical cities are far from finding a solution to this identity problem so cities are becoming and developing without identity. In this regard, aim of this thesis is to develop sustainable solution suggestions to urban identity problems. Thesis composed of general informations, research work, facts, discussions, conclusions and suggestions. General Informations discussed in three topics as Urban Renewal Concept, Identity Concept, Sustainability Concept. Research work part is composed of research methods and technics. In this context, a survey form was constituted and random sample for this survey defined. Afterwards survey form answered by sample group and results were digitalized. Verified datas analyzed with SPSS statistics programme with the help of chi-square test, cross tab analyzes and frequency table and accuracy of assumptions set out at the beginning of study were researched. With this context, via this research; with considering facts, discussions, conclusions and suggestions, explanations about topic was done.
