Abstract (EN)

Neck pain is the second most common musculoskeletal pathology after low back pain. Many complaints can be seen in individuals with neck pain. Among these complaints, deceleration in functionality due to pain, limitations in joint range of motion and balance problems may be mentioned.There are many treatment options available for individuals with neck pain. Some of the treatments used for neck pain include soft tissue and joint mobilizations, stabilization exercises for the neck, trunk and shoulder muscles, cervical braces, relaxation training, strengthening exercises and body awareness and posture training as examples. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of Myofascial Release Technique (MRT) with a roller massager combined with Core Stabilization Exercises (CSE) in adults with chronic neck pain (CNP). A total of forty-five participants were randomly divided into two groups (CSE and CSE+MRT). A core stabilization exercise program was applied for the participants in the CSE group for 3 days per week for a total of 6 weeks. In addition to the core stabilization exercises, myofascial relaxation technique with a roller massager was performed for 3 days per week for 6 weeks for the participants in the CSE+MRT group. After CSE, the flexion angle increased statistically significant (p<0.001). In addition there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of balance, range of motion and functionality (p>0.05). In terms of pain and pressure pain threshold, CSE+MGT was found to be superior to CSE applied alone. This study demonstrates that myofascial relaxation technique combined with core stabilization exercises is an effective choice in increasing pressure pain threshold and decreasing pain in individuals with chronic neck pain.
