A research on the assessment of urban river landscape of Kirşehir Kiliçözü stream

Rivers play an important role in landscape with regard to waterfront use and the options they provide. In this regard, urban river landscapes are evaluated as potential areas for meeting the recreational needs of the public. In this thesis, Kent Park along the Kılıçözü Stream corridor passing through the Kırşehir city center has been selected as the study area. The main purpose of the thesis was to determine the structural criteria that can be used for measuring the performance of the riverfront recreational landscape desing and carry out related evaluations for the Kılıçözü Stream Kent Park. First, literature review was carried out within the scope of the thesis during which river landscape examples in the world and in Turkey were examined. Structural performance criteria were determined in accordance with the acquired data and observations at the Kılıçözü Stream Kent Park. Four parameters (connectivity, image elements, interaction with water, and presence of green areas) were selected as structural performance criteria after which scorings were made for each parameter. It was observed when the Kılıçözü Stream City Park was evaluated with regard to structural performance criteria that it is of moderate quality standard. As a result, strategies were developed for structural improvements and advancements related with Kılıçözü Stream City Park. Moreover, the necessity was emphasized for the development of design projects for the city and the users in order to meet the recreational needs of the public as a continuation of Kılıçözü Stream City Park.
