Content evaluation of jihad chapters in al-Kutub al-Sitta

There is no doubt that one of the most fundamental subjects and concepts of Islam is jihad. In fact, the usage of this concept with different patterns about forty times in Qur'ān and three hundred and thirty nine times in al-Kutub al-Sitta reveals the importance of the subject. Besides, all the al-Kutub al-Sitta authors' including this subject in their works is a reflection of this importance In the study, efforts has been made for better understanding the subject by explaining basic concepts related to jihad, and also the purpose of jihad literature has been tried to be determined for the sake of better understanding of the jihad chapters in al-Kutub al-Sitta. In this study jihad-containing chapters were examined especially through the works compiled in the first three hijri centuries. The reviews and determinations were mostly made based on the contents. As a result, it was determined that main topics of jihad ahadith mentioned in al-Kutub al-Sitta and other early hadith compilations were mostly about method and style of jihad, war apparatus, virtue of jihad, martyrdom, and spoils. In the present thesis, related chapters to jihad-containing narrations in al-Kutub al-Sitta were found out and short information about their contents was given as well. By examining jihad sections in al-Kutub al-Sitta within itself, it has been observed that ahadith and subheadings are substantially in accordance with each other. After studying chapters of jihads in the compilations general evaluation of each chapter has been made. Finally comparing the contents of jihad chapters in al-Kutub al-Sitta, it has been found that there are great similarities between them.
