Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of computer-aided teaching materials based on the REACT strategy in ?Particulate Structure of Material and Heat? topic on students? achievement. A quasi experimental method was used and data were collected through achievement test which was used as pre-test and post-test, worksheets and interviews. The study was carried out with the 6th grade students in Akçaabat Alaittin Akçay Primary School. To determine prior knowledge of the students, a pre-test was applied to the experimental (31) and control (32) groups. Experimental group was taught with computer-aided materials whereas control group was taught with traditional methods. Post-tests were applied to both groups after the courses. Data acquired from pre-and post-tests were analyzed using the SPSS 13 software, by running t-test. Furthermore, randomly selected 10 students were interviewed about their thoughts on the computer-aided courses. Interview results showed that students found the courses delivered with REACT strategy more enjoyable than the courses delivered with traditional methods. Being active throughout the lecture and having control of all stages of learning activities were thought to provide a significant contribution in motivating students and increasing their level of success. It is concluded that using real life situation contexts are helpful in students? learning process.
