Medical social service support for women who have undergonemastectomy; Field study

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the difficulties and needs of women who have undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer and address them in terms of Medical Social Services. The survey form, which was prepared by the researcher for the purpose of collecting data, was applied to 200 mastectomized women by using simple random method in Gebze, district of Kocaeli province. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 25.0 statistical program. According to this data, it was found that mastectomy was more common in women with advanced age and education level were among the factors affecting mastectomy and it is found that vast majority of women wanted to get psyco-social support before mastectomy, but the medical social practices given were insufficient. In the last part of the study; the results, discussions and suggestions which were made according to the findings obtained in the study are included.
