Abstract (EN)

Potential liver dysfunctions, its effects and its relation to other parameters in obesity have been the subject of many researches in recent years. However, most of these studies are based primarily on the comparative investigation of liver enzymes. Therefore, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between body composition measured by bioelectric impedance analysis and liver enzyme activities and bilirubin levels in women aged 55-70. Between January 2016 and December 2016, 99 women at the aged of 55-70, who underwent bioelectrical impedance analysis measurements and whose liver enzymes and bilirubin levels were measured at Batman Regional State Hospital Diet Policlinic on the same day, were examined retrospectively. The women's body composition values including fat mass, fat content, muscle mass, bone mass, and body composition values, and blood parameter levels including aspartic amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gamma glutamyl trans-peptidase (GGT) and bilirubin were assessed. It was found that serum LDH activities of obese women were significantly higher than control group values, and the GGT activities of overweight and obese women were significantly higher than the control group values. It was found out that a significant correlation was found between serum ALT activities with mineral amount values; body mass index (BMI) values with serum GGT activities and age of metabolism; serum LDH activities with VKI, fat weight and fat ratio values. In addition, serum urea levels were found to be negatively correlated with BMH significantly. Findings of our study suggest that increased VKI in elderly individuals as in studies carried out on adult subjects may pose a risk in terms of liver diseases. It is therefore necessary to clarify whether the body composition components present any risk factors for liver diseases, especially in elderly obese individuals, and to be revealed by extensive clinical trials.
