The problems encountered during teacher-administrator interactions in science high schools according to the views of the teachers (Aegean region sample)

Education system has a great impact on society's progress in all areas. Teachers are clearly shape students who are inputs in education system. Administration ,within the system, is official authority which is in caharge of providing a convenient environment to education partners. In this regard,formal and informal relationship between administrator and teacher affect institution's success as well as student's. The research is a descriptive research which aims to put forth the views of science high school teachers in terms of "The Problems Encountered during Teacher-Administrator Interactions". In the research, it was aimed to reach all the population, not a sample from the population. The population of the research was composed of 739 teachers from 31 science state high schools in the cities of Aydın, Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, Kütahya, İzmir, Manisa, Muğla and Uşak in Aegean Region. However, 320 teachers participated in the study. The scale of Güler (2006) titled "Problematic Issues in Teacher-Administrator Interactions" was used after being adapted to science high schools. As a result of the research, it was detected that in administrator-teacher interactions, the teachers working in İzmir and Aydın had more problems than the teachers working in other cities; and the teachers with 11-15 years of service had more problems compared to other teachers. It was seen that there was a political and union polarization between the administrators and the teachers. According to the views of the teachers, the problems between the administrators and the teachers were caused by administrator assignments made under the guidance of the union. It was detected that among the items of the scale, the most important communication problem was "The administrators are not open to the criticism of the teachers". In general, the problems encountered in administrator-teacher interactions in terms of the views of the teachers were at medium level. According to the findings of the research, suggestions were made for the administrators, teachers and researchers. KEY WORDS: Science High School, Administrator, Teacher, Human Relations,Problems
