Abstract (EN)
The comprehensive design phase in shipbuilding is crucial for the success of subsequent production activities. Notwithstanding progress in digital tools and modeling capabilities, numerous shipyards continue to encounter inefficiencies stemming from inadequate interdisciplinary cooperation, superfluous feedback loops, and inflexible task sequencing. This work seeks to tackle these issues by employing the Design Structure Matrix (DSM) method, a systematic technique for detecting and managing job interdependence in complex engineering processes. The study offers an in-depth examination of contemporary detailed design workflows in shipbuilding, pinpointing significant bottlenecks and inefficiencies. The construction of DSM models revealed the interdependencies among design activities, facilitating better task sequencing, feedback loop reduction, and enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration. A case study was conducted on the block design process, incorporating DSM analysis and workflow modeling to illustrate practical application. The paper provides an enhanced design framework that prioritizes modularization, parallelization, and digital integration. Algorithms for DSM reordering and grouping were created to save iteration cycles and enhance process transparency. The findings demonstrate that the DSM technique improves schedule dependability, minimizes rework, and augments responsiveness to client-driven modifications and regulatory mandates. This thesis highlights the promise of DSM as a transformative instrument for improving efficiency, quality, and adaptability in comprehensive ship design. The results provide actionable insights for shipyards seeking to enhance their engineering methodologies and adopt digital transformation initiatives.
