Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to investigate the relation between attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons and reasons for participation in extracurricular sport activities according to their participation in and disqualification of school sports competitions for middle school students in Kütahya city center. The study is composed of 7th and 8th grade middle school students who are studying in the schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. A total of 993 volunteers, including 520 male and 473 female students, participated in the school sports competitions to participate in the study were selected using the random sampling method. The survey used as a data collection tool in the study consists of 3 parts. In the first part, a personal information form is used to identify the participants' personal information. In the second part, attitude scale for physical education and spore, which was developed by Demirhan and the others (2001) and whose validity and reliability were determined, is included. In the third part, the Scale of Participation / Non Participation in Extracurricular Activities, which is developed by Akgul and the others (2012)whose validity and reliability are proven, is included. SPSS 20 Windows package program was used to evaluate the obtained data. Percentage and frequency methods were used in determining the distributions of the personal information of the participants. A single sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied to determine the distributions of the data. Independent sample t test for two groups and one way variance analysis tests for three or more groups were applied as hypothesis tests in the study. The level of significance in the study was taken as p< 0,5. As a result of the statistical analysis, no significant relation was found between attitudes towards physical education and sports lesson according to participation of the participants in school sports. (p>-0,05). In addition, there is a statistical difference in the reasons for participating in extracurricular sport activities, depending on whether or not participants participate in school sports.( p<-0,001) When the relationship between these two variables is examined, the attitudes towards physical education and sports courses increase as well as the reasons for participation in sports activities out of school.( p<0,05) As a result, the participation of middle school students in and out of school sports does not affect their attitudes towards physical education and sports, but it affects the reasons for participation in sports activities outside of school. Participants in school sports tend to participate more in sporting events as well.In addition, as attitudes towards physical education and spore increase, the reasons for participation in extracurricular sport activities also increase.
