The relationship between secondary school students' metacognitive awareness and nature of science understandings

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it has been aimed to examine the relationship between levels of metacognitive awareness and the sense of nature of science among secondary school students. The screening model has been utilized in the study. The working group of the study is made up of 279 students from two secondary schools in Adıyaman with the highest and lowest TEOG exam results. "Scale to understand the nature of science" and "Inventory of Metacognitive Awareness" are used as a data collection tool. T-test and Anova test are used to analyze the research data, and to understand the relationship between "the level of metacognitive awareness" and "sense of nature of science" the correlation chart is utilized. As a consequence of findings, it is seen that there is no significant difference either for metacognitive awareness level or for sense of nature of science in terms of gender. Metacognitive awareness level and Sense of nature of science values for students with higher academic success. While no significant difference is observed among class levels in terms of metacognitive awareness level, a significant difference is seen among class levels and nature of science in only sub level of man of science category. The fact that the higher the education level of the parents, the higher the metacognitive awareness level and sense of nature of science of the students is also observed
