Reading difficulties experiencing middle school students: An observation oriented annotation study

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to examine the reading difficulties experienced by secondary school students in depth. For this purpose, a study lasting twelve weeks was conducted. The study was carried out with four secondary school students with reading difficulties in a secondary school located in the central district of Aksaray province. Observation method, one of the qualitative research methods, was preferred in data collection. The texts that the students read in the Turkish lessons were observed for ten weeks. As a result of the observations, the reading levels of the students with reading difficulties, the behaviors exhibited during reading, reading errors, the reaction of their classmates to their reading were determined and it was questioned whether there was a change in the reading levels of the students with reading difficulties at the end of the process. The reading limits of the students with reading difficulties within the scope of the observations target are anxiety dimensions, they engage in some desirable and undesirable behaviors during reading, they make reading errors such as skipping, adding, repeating, reading wrong words, spelling mistakes, not paying attention to punctuation marks, finger tracking, It was found that the students exhibited various behaviors during their reading due to the difficulty of reading with their classmates, and that their reading in the course of Turkish lessons was insufficient to complete the reading time of the students with reading difficulties.
