Patient satisfaction with nursing care and associated factors among individuals undergoing orthopedic surgery

ABSTRACT Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care and Associated Factors Among Individuals Undergoing Orthopedic Surgery This study was conducted to assess the level of satisfaction with nursing care among orthopedic surgery patients, using a descriptive and correlational research design. The sample consisted of 232 patients who underwent orthopedic surgical procedures and were hospitalized at a medical faculty in western Türkiye between 2024 and 2025. Data were collected using a personal information form and the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0 and DataBeeg 1.0. Descriptive statistical methods (frequency, percentage, minimum-maximum values, mean, and standard deviation) were employed in the analysis.The average age of the patients who participated in the study was 52.94 ± 20.90. Among them, 61.3% were male, 28% had completed primary education, 58.2% were married, 62.9% were not employed, and 68.1% had children.The average satisfaction score for nursing care among the patients was 82.59 ± 12.77, indicating a level of satisfaction above the overall mean. Notably, patients who received information about their surgery reported significantly higher satisfaction scores compared to those who did not (p<0.05).This study found that patients who underwent orthopedic surgery were generally satisfied with the nursing care they received. Based on these findings, nurses working in orthopedic units should maintain high standards of care and actively seek to improve care quality by adopting current best practices and engaging in ongoing professional development.
