Investigation of low self-esteem of parents of children with autism

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to compare the parents of the children with diagnosis of autism and the parents of the children without diagnosis of autism in terms of self esteem. 94 parents of autistic children assigned experimental group and 94 parents of non autistic children assigned control group. Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale and Socio-demographic data form has been used fort he purpose of measure self esteem. Firstly, control group and experiment group compared in terms of self esteem, then experiment group compared from the standpoint of sex. The data has analyzed by SPSS 20 programme. Mann Whitney U test has been used for analyses. At the end of the study parents of children with autistic diagnosis showed low self esteem scores. Moreover the parents of children who diagnosis autism copmared by sex, males showed higher scores than females. Keywords: Autism, Self Esteem, Low Self-Esteem
