Suut Kemal Yetkin with his thoughts on poetry and his "Şiir-i Leyal"

In this thesis written at the department of Turkish Language and Literature, at the Social Sciences Institute of the Black Sea Technical University, it is aimed at evaluating Suut Kemal YETKİN' s ideas on poetry, his critical and argumentative writing and the poems he wrote in his youth, which he later had printed under the title Şiir-i Leyal. Suut Kemal YETKİN, like many literary artists have done in their literary lives, started literature through poetry. While he was concentrating on philosophy, art history and aesthetics during his study in Paris, he removed from writing poetry as much as his ambition during his youth. Having been far away from writing poetry for a while, Suut Kemal YETKİN, claimed that poetry was his point of departure in most of his prose works. In Turkish Literature up till now, there has not been an adequate study on the poems written by Suut Kemal YETKİN in his youth as well as his ideas upon poetry. Suut Kemal YETKİN, for this reason, is known as an art-historian, an aesthetician, a critic and an essayist. In this work, the poetic side of Suut Kemal YETKİN, his ideas on poetry, both other's and his own saying on poetry are the topics studied through the methods of research, observation, analysis and composition. His articles, essays and criticism, which are not found in his printed works, are compiled from various newspapers and magazines and for the first time examined in this thesis. To conclude, the focus on poetry Suut Kemal YETKİN made in his prose works and original inventions on the eastern and western literature's are evaluated. In addition, an analysis of his Şiir-i Leyal written by the style of Ahmet Haşim is made. Vll
