Use of concept cartoons in the unit of "Living democracy" at social studies lesson

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is determined to examine the effect of students' academic achievement and attitudes when the use of concept cartoon in the living democracy unit of social studies lesson. Fort his purpose, a semi-experimental pattern with pre-test and post-test control group was used in this study which utilizes a mixed research method. The sample of the study consist of 50 students who are studying in the 7th grade of Gazi Secondary School in Bolvadin district of Afyonkarahisar province in the second term of education on 2015-2016. These students' levels of success, their attitudes towards the lesson and their demographic characteristics are detected and heterogeneous groups were formed by assigning students to research groups by assigning them to neutral. In the living democracy unit for applied course activities that was planned as 4 weeks and 12 lesson hours except the time which was allocated for application of pre-test and post-test to the experimental group of research. In the control group, the living democracy unit was taught with classical methods as 4 weeks and 12 lesson hours. Success test and attitude scale were used as a measurement tool in the research. According to the findings obtained from the study it was concluded that social studies course which was planned using concept cartoons, had a positive effect on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards the course.
