A meta-synthesis study on the research on values education in the field of social sciences education

By nature, human beings find themselves in a society from the first day of their lives. He grows and develops in that society. As he develops, he survives by taking the norms and cultural life of his society. Values are one of these elements. Just as we are connected to our family or the society we belong to, we also need to be connected to our values in the same way. The values we learn first in the family and then in schools and apply in daily life will also shed light on our future lives. For this reason, the values desired to be conveyed to students in the social studies course are very important. This study, which examines the research on values education in the field of social studies education, was conducted with the meta-synthesis method, which is one of the qualitative researches. Within the scope of the research, a total of thirty-seven studies, twenty-two articles and fifteen theses, were analyzed. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis, tables were created for each sub-problem and the findings were interpreted. According to the studies examined, it was seen that the most scientific publications in the field of values and values education were made between 2018 and 2019; qualitative methods were preferred in the majority of these published studies and mixed methods were used the least; the majority of the studies were conducted with primary and secondary school students; interview, one of the data collection methods, was used the most; and content analysis was frequently used to analyze the data.
