Abstract (EN)
Water is the source of life and living things. It is a continuous value in a cycle between oceans, atmosphere and soil. Approximately 71% of the Earth's surface is covered with water. Around 97.5% of the earth's water resources are seas and oceans, while glaciers, groundwater and surface water make up 2.5%. Among these, only 0.3% freshwater resources suitable for ecosystem and human use. Recognizing the vital role of water, a precious natural resource, it is crucial that individuals use it responsibly and avoid waste. The scarcity of freshwater and the expensive processes required to purify it have prompted innovative solutions. Consequently, many nations are exploring and prioritizing alternative water sources as a strategy for the sustainable management of their natural resources. Countries around the world should consider rainwater as an alternative to conserve water and make maximum use of it. Rainwater harvesting involves capturing and storing rainwater, along with any water that flows off surfaces during rainfall. Collecting water from collection areas such as roofs in urban buildings to meet domestic, industrial, agricultural and environmental demands is an extremely necessary saving measure due to the scarcity of water resources or simply to save water. In this way, water resources will be protected. In this thesis, the feasibility of rainwater harvesting for Artvin Çoruh University Central and Seyitler Campuses was investigated. The calculations and results show that when the rainwater harvesting system is applied for both campuses, the project pays its initial cost in 19 years, which means that the project is efficient.
