Abstract (EN)

System Design For QCM Based Biosensor QCM (quartz crystal microbalance) measures the mass change per unit area by measuring the frequency change of a quartz crystal. The resonance is changed by adding or removing a small mass due to oxide growth, decay, or film deposition on the surface of the acoustic resonator. QCMs can be used in vacuum, gas phase, or in liquid. Since the early 1980s QCMs have been used as sensors, and they are the popular choice for biosensing nowadays. Early detection of viruses or genetically modified organism detection are some examples that QCM is used as a biosensor. In this thesis, a system is designed for QCM-based biosensor. The method that is used in the designed system is explained. Then the measurements of suitable components for this system are presented. System measurements and VNA measurements are compared with each other to verify the operation of the designed system. Also, an alternative system design is explained. The same steps are followed for the alternative system. Finally, the conclusion is drawn, and future work is presented.
