Investigation of residential open spaces according to Trabzon court records (17-18th century)

The objective of this study is to examine the residential, open-space, vegetative and structural landscape elements in these open spaces, their immediate surroundings, neighborhoods and the urban landscape of Trabzon city through court registers. The study utilises 17th and 18th-century registers, which contain property records, sales offences, probate and dispute records as the primary source. The study is structured into four sections: General Information, Studies, Findings and Evaluations, Conclusions and Suggestions. The first section, titled General Information, provides an overview of landscape architecture and historical research, studies based on archival documents, and the literature on Trabzon neighborhoods. It also discusses the purpose, scope, and method of the study, and evaluates their potential contributions. In the initial segment of the Studies, the diversity of data within the registers is examined within the context of Landscape Architecture. In the subsequent segment, the data from the registers is presented in isolation for the Trabzon neighborhoods of the specified period, accompanied by statistical data, textual commentary, and graphical representations, including maps. The Findings and Evaluations section provides an interpretation of the distribution of determinations, including property type, neighborhoods, vegetative and structural elements according to the neighborhoods. This is supported by maps and graphics under eight subheadings. The Conclusions section presents the general conclusions obtained within the framework of the purpose and scope of the study, and suggestions for further studies.
