Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the number of female directors in board of directors especially since 2011. Because of our observations about how changes are there on the board of directors of the firms that listed in the BIST, there are approximately 290 female directors in more than 400 investigated firms especially since 2011. Percentages 64 of these female directors have started to work in this position since 2011. In this study, the data that was collected for establishing the employment of female directors in Turkey was tested with regression analysis. According to findings of the study, there is no relationship between female director and other members of board of directors at firms in Turkey since 2011. Moreover, after that year, female directors, who are members of board of directors, generally become independent members. In addition, the number of female directors decreases in the board of directors with the increase in the board of directors' size. In compliance with the other result, the number of female directors diminishes with the rise of shared board of directors membership. The implications of the study are to investigate female directors' employment, to discover the antecedents of female directors' employment, to look the ratios before 2011 and after 2011, to find out whether the practices are normative or advisory and to discuss if it is an apparent issue. One of the next study examples can be to discover how female directors' employment affects the firms' financial and social responsibility performances according to literature in Turkey. Especially international study related with voluntary based and quota implementation can be done. Keywords: Board of Directors, Female Managers, Female Managers in the Boards Of Director
