Adaptation problems of university youth: The case of Yalova

Abstract (EN)

The youth phenomenon which is evaluated with social, biological, psychological dimensions and can be defined in different ways according to the point of view, is seen as the potential future of society. It is important for young people, who are regarded as the future of the society they belong to, to have a healthy and problem-free youth period to keep their functionalities at the top level. In this study, the adolescents who were studying at higher education, to the university they were studying and city they were spending time in were examined according to the kertain kind of adaptation types. In addition to this, it was aimed to learn the problems they had with the university they were studying and the city they were spending time in. Within the scope of the research, it war worked with 480 students in Yalova University using questionnaire technique. According to the results, the vast majority of young people in the higher education, expressed the sense of responsibility as the most intense feeling. In addition, it has been determined that young people experience psychological and social problems during the period of higher education. It has been determined that young people are substantially experiencing economic difficulties and this situaiton is negatively affecting their compliance. In addition, it has been determined that young people experience problems affecting their adaptation to the department they study and teaching staff. The presence of young people who are having problems in adapting culturally t to Yalova and feeling alone is also a research finding.
