Abstract (EN)

In the case of non-meaningful learning and getting knowledge by rote cause to miss the point and misconception and misunderstanding of concepts that cannot be used properly in the daily life so teaching concept gets importance. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the level of perception and misconception of 6th grade gifted students? concepts of melting, freezing, evaporation, boiling and condensation and to determine the effect of the activities based on the 5E learning cycle model on the concepts under investigation.In this study, action research method was used and four activities appropriate to 5E model based on constructivist approach was developed. The activities were applied to 23 gifted-students (6th grade) enrolled at Ordu Science and Arts Center. The data of this study was gathered by using a three section test prepared benefiting from the literature, semi-structured interviews and informal classroom observations. The test and interviews were applied before and after the treatment. The interviews were individually conducted with 23 students and tape recorded. The frequency and percentage tables were used to summarize the data of this study.At the end of the study, it was seen that gifted students have misconceptions that are partly corrected by the help of those activities that could not be effective to correct all misconceptions. Some suggestions were made to the researchers and educators according to the results obtained from this study.
