Investigation of anthropometric and motoric characteristics of children in different branches attending the summer sports school

In this study, the 10-12 age group, basketball (n = 20), table tennis (n = 20), badminton (n = 20) and the control group (n = 20) who participated in the summer sports school conducted under the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports in Çorum Province.), the anthropometric and motor characteristics of a total of 80 boys were compared. Anthropometric and bio motor skill tests were performed before the studies as a pre-test and a final test after 12 weeks. The normal distribution of the data was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test. T-test was used for dependent groups for normally distributed data and Wilcoxon test for data that did not show normal distribution. For comparisons between more than two independent groups, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for normally distributed data, and Kruskal-Wallis test was used for non-normally distributed data. Tukey or Bonferroni corrected Mann Whitney U post hoc multiple comparison tests were used to determine the groups that caused the difference after ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis test. For statistical significance level p <0.05 was accepted. In the intergroup comparisons, a significant difference was found in the anthropometric and motoric properties of the badminton, basketball, and table tennis groups (p <0.005). It was found that there was a significant difference in the anthropometric characteristics of the control group, and no significant difference in the motor characteristics. In the comparisons between the groups, it was found that the badminton branch had a more significant effect on anthropometric and motoric properties than basketball, table tennis and the control group. As a result, it can be said that sports activities applied to the 10-12 age group are effective in the development of anthropometric and motoric features in children.
