Proposal for accreditation practices in higher education institutions: Example of a public university

Abstract (EN)

In this study, a self-evaluation report proposal of a public university's civil engineering department has been prepared based on the self-evaluation criterias of an international accreditation institution which is called Mühendislik Eğitim Programları Değerlendirme ve Akreditasyon Derneği (MÜDEK). Under favour of this report; it is aimed to increase conciousness about the importance, benefits and the necessity of quality and accreditation by top managers, academicians and administrative staff, and thus to pioneer the first step for accreditation process. Upon the findings of the study, a possible accreditation of this department based on the criterias of MÜDEK's engineering undergraduate education has shown the quality level of current educational activities. Accordingly, a self-evaluation report proposal has been prepared. This report proposal shared with the relevant authorities in the university has contributed to the current knowledge about quality and accreditation of administrative staff, academicians and in particular the top managers, their awareness has been increased and it has been as a motivational instrument to initiate the accreditation process.
