Abstract (EN)

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine 10-12 years old boys' suitability for Track and Field in Bingol. Materials and methods: 524 volunteer male students aged between 10-12 years and they were studying in central secondary schools in Bingol and they did not actively do sports for two months or more, got involved in the study. Age, height, weight, body fat percentage (BFP), body mass index (BMI) and basal metabolic rate (BMR kcal) were measured on research group consisting of male children, as anthropometric measurements. Vertical jump (VJT), 30 m speed (TST), Illinois agility test (IAT), standing long jump (LJT), health ball throwing (HBT) and 1000 meters run-walk (OHMT) tests were applied as motoric features. Data were analysed by IBM SPSS Statistics 20 package program. The normality hypothesis of each variable was made by Kolmogorov Smirnov test, Pearson correlation was used in the relationship among those providing normality assumption and Spearman correlation was used for the others. In the analysis of the obtained data, the significance level of 0.05 was used. Results: Height, weight, BFP, BMI, BMR, OHMT, LJT and VJT values of 10-12 age group children were similar to those reported in the literature. For HBT high, for IAT low and for TST different values were reached. It was found that BMR had a medium-level positive correlation with HBT. Conclusion: A weak correlation was found between anthropometric criteria and motoric properties in this study. When the suitability of the research group for track and fields was evaluated, high and very high VJT and OHMT values were obtained in the 10 and 12 age groups, and high and very high VJT and TST values were reached in the 11 age group. It is seen that the 12-year-old children are more inclined to jumps and run in track and field. Keywords: Male children, Suitability, Talent selection, Track and Field
