The coover of Turkish and maths lesson books used in 1995 ? 2006 and their effects on primary school students

The most important agents, in children? gaining the aimed goals, are family, society and the school. The primary education consists the basic and the most important grade of the schools.One of the greatest reforms in our recent education system is that the application of the new instructional programs, based on the constitutional learning approach, has begun to be performed. Furthermore, the change is not restricted with the programmes, it also effected the materials supporting the education and instruction. There are also course books among these changed materials. To decide whether the design of the course book-covers effect the students or not has become a need for the survey.Qualitative and quantitative methods are used in this survey. To collect quantitative data for this survey, data collection tool was developed by the researcher. Qualitative data was acquired from the conversations with the students. The survey is restricted within fifty 3rd grade students in Atatürk Primary School and Fuat Paşa Primary School, Kütahya.The research is concentrated on the primary schools in Kütahya, it is exemplified in Fuat Paşa and Atatürk Primary Schools.It is necessary to illuminate the cover of the course book covers with ideal visual materials.Through our research, a questionnaire about the design of the course book covers, was given to 3rd grade students. According to the result came out of the questionnaire is; National Educational Publishing and the other commercial publishings ,fail to to attract the students? attention and to contribute their cognitive development.In the light of these information; some proposals are given;To realize an effective and permanent education, the cover of the course books need to be visualized according to the degree of development. Of the studentsand the cover-design should reflect the content of the book.Keywords: Graphic, Primary Education, Cover, Cover Design, Design.
