An Investigation into the applicability of teaching activities of the new humanities curriculum (2005-2006 academic year)

The new curriculum aims to educate pupils through theirimmediate cultural and physical world. Thus, it tries to provide students with knowledge,skills, values and attitudes in order fort hem to be effective members of their own society.The curriculum aims to provide those skills and knowledge through activities. Therefore thesuccess of ?constructivist social science curriculum? will depend on the effectiveness of thoseactivities.The survey method was used in this study. A questionnaire unique to this study wasdevelepoded to collect data.All of the primary teachers teaching to 4th and 5th graders in Uşak primary schools wereincluded in the sample of the study.The data collected through the questionnaire was analyzed by SPSS. The following statisticalanalysis was done: frequency, percentage, mean, Standard deviation, t test and F test.Teachers view on both the philosophy of the programme and its applicability were analyzed.Their views on both these issues seem to have a positive inclination.Key words: Social Sciences(Humanities), Constructivism, Activities
