Abstract (EN)
Objective: It was aimed to evaluate the relationship between abortion imminence and procalcitonin, neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios, which are markers of inflammation, due to the chronic inflammatory reaction that is thought to play a role in the pathophysiology of abortion imminence. Materials and Methods: Demographic characteristics (age, height, weight, body mass index, educational status, parity, previous surgery, current chronic disease), serum procalcitonin, neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet levels, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratios (PLR) of 55 patients diagnosed with abortion imminence at Amasya Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Training and Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic between June 15, 2020 and November 30, 2020 were compared with 55 healthy pregnant women. ROC analyzes were performed for abortion imminence in terms of procalcitonin, NLR and PLR. In addition, the abortion imminence group with continuing pregnancy was divided into two groups according to the presence of hemorrhage area in ultrasonography and re-evaluated in terms of serum procalcitonin levels, NLR and PLR. Results: Groups were homogeneous in terms of their demographic characteristics (p> 0.05). Procalcitonin and NLR levels were significantly higher in abortus imminence group compared to control group (p <0.05). In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.615 95% confidence intervals (0.509-0.721) for procalcitonin and 0.662 95% confidence intervals (0.560-0.765) for NLR, both of which were statistically significant (p <0.05). Procalcitonin and NLR resulted as appropriate parameters as diagnostic decision makers in predicting abortion imminence. Among the abortus imminens, which were divided into two groups according to whether there was hemorrhage area in ultrasonography, procalcitonin, NLR and PLR were higher in patients with hemorrhage area than those without, but it was not significant (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Procalcitonin and NLR can support the diagnosis of abortion imminence in the laboratory. Increased serum procalcitonin and NLR levels in pregnant women may indicate an increased risk for abortion imminence.
