Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of preoperative video education given to patients scheduled for emergency surgery on vital signs, pain and surgical fear levels. Material and Method: The study was conducted in a randomized controlled manner between February 2023 and February 2024 at Tunceli State Hospital. The sample consisted of 52 patients who were planned for emergency surgery, as the experimental group (n: 26) given video education and the control group (n: 26). Data were collected using the Patient Information Form, Surgical Fear Scale, Numerical Pain Scale and Patient Data Form. After the patients' information, surgical fear levels, pain levels and vital signs were measured, the experimental group was given video training. After the patients' information, surgical fear levels, pain levels and vital signs were measured, the experimental group was given video training. Ten minutes after the training, surgical fear levels, pain levels and vital signs were measured and recorded again. In the postoperative period, pain levels and vital signs of both groups were measured and recorded. In the analysis of data; In addition to descriptive statistical methods, Shapiro-Wilk Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Friedman and Wilcoxon Test were used to distribute the data. Significance was evaluated at p<0.01 and p<0.05 levels. Results: Within the scope of the research, it was determined that the difference between vital signs, pain and surgical fear levels between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). In the intra-group comparison of the experimental group, it was determined that the difference between pre-post-training pain and surgical fear levels was statistically significant (p <0.01). Conclusion: It has been determined that video training given before emergency surgery reduces the level of surgical fear, reduces the pain level after training compared to the pre-training period, but has no effect on vital signs and the level of pain felt after surgery.
